Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram

The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram is in Chennai, on the east coast of south India.

Also abbreviated to KYM, the institute was founded by TKV Desikachar (the son of Krishnamacharya), a teacher with over 45 years of experience.

KYM is a non-profit center, and is popular with international yoga devotees, who enjoy the center's approach of 'healing people through yoga.' This is part of it's broad approach to the discipline: KYM's teachings and practice are flexible, in line with its founders philosophy of not applying principles too rigidly. Instead, all elements of yoga are combined to produce the best outcome for teachers and students.

KYM does not offer accommodation. This means that finding places to stay with easy access to the center is a hot topic of conversation among visitors. The most popular accommodation is New Woodlands, and most guests review this hotel well. However, New Woodlands has been most popular mostly because of the lack of options. The Raj Hotel is a newer nearby accommodation choice, while some visitors choose to rent a short-term apartment nearby, often in pairs or small groups of other travelers to KYM.

The May to September months in Chennai and surrounds are notoriously hot, with humidity and downpours also causing some discomfort to some visitors. Be aware of this when booking.
