The founder and head instructor, Gowrisha Hoskere, has extensive training in Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, having studied under renowned teachers in Mysore, Rishikesh and Bangalore. He has studied and continues to study the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice at the KPJAYI, Mysore under the guidance of Sharath Jois. A dedicated practitioner who through a daily rigorous practice has experienced asanas through self inquiry and focus, Gowrisha has greatly benefited from the benefits of yoga himself, having cured his asthma and healed a knee injury. His goal is to share the healing and transformative powers of yoga with others so that they can also experience its many benefits. New students are asked about any health issues or physical challenges they may be facing so that the instruction can be adapted to their individual needs.
Classes at Samyama are offered all year around, taught daily over periods of 1, 2, or 3 months. Students have the opportunity to learn and master a series of asanas in detail, learning not only proper alignment but also the physical benefits of each asana. Gowrisha feels it’s important to impart the essence of yoga to his students by also inspiring them to learn more about the many different aspects of yoga like pranayama and meditation, through special classes and retreats.
